Cold winter weather can be harsh on your skin, but these easy DIY soaps will have you feeling smooth and refreshed in no time! Natural loofah is a highly effective skin exfoliant, and coconut oil and cocoa butter will help to hydrate and moisturize dry skin.
Random side note, did you know that you can call them loofah soaps OR luffa soaps? Both are correct! Supplies Used to Make Loofah Soaps:
- Natural Loofah
- Cocoa Butter Soap Base
- Coconut Oil
- Coconut Fragrance Oil (optional)
- Soap Colorant
- Isopropyl Alcohol (at least 90%) in a Fine-Mist Spray Bottle
- Serrated Knife
- Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup
- Round Silicone Soap Mold
How to Make Loofah Soaps:
Use the serrated knife to slice the loofah into 1″ thick slices. Place one slice in each well of the silicone mold.
Cut the soap base into 1/2″ cubes and divide into three piles. Place 1/3 of the soap cubes into a microwave-safe measuring cup, and melt in the microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring well after each microwave session to ensure that the soap is completely melted.
Note: You will be filling two wells of the mold with each batch of melted soap.
Add coconut oil, fragrance oil (if using), and pink soap colorant to the melted soap base. Pour the pink mixture into one of the wells of the mold. Add purple soap colorant to the remaining melted soap, stir, and pour the soap mixture into another well of the mold. Spritz the top of each soap with isopropyl alcohol to remove any air bubbles.
Repeat the process for the other colors: 1) Add yellow colorant to the melted soap base, stir, and mold. Add orange (or pink) colorant to the remaining yellow soap base to make orange; mold. 2) Add blue colorant to the melted soap base, stir, and mold. Add green (or yellow) to the remaining blue soap base to make green; mold.
Allow the soap to sit undisturbed until completely firm and cool (approximately 60-90 minutes depending on temperature and humidity) before unmolding.
